‘Eden at Night’ is a creation to honour the junction points in your life.
Sometimes you find yourself standing on the edge of a deep, dark forest. Do you enter?
Someone once told me that if you are brave enough to level up, and enter into something that would allow you to grow, you should. The deep, dark forest is that. Standing in the open field feels safe, familiar and common. Looking into the forest, the journey in seems uncertain, unforgiving and filled with danger. So you pull up your socks, secure your backpack and you breathe deeply. In you go…..
The forest so thick, that all you can manage is one foot in front of the other. Testing the ground before applying your weight in each instance. You can smell the density of the earth, the soil and the forest in one single breathe – almost competing for your attention as you use your elbows to push through the understory of vegetation. Aloneness is strong and solitude is bound without time at this point in your journey.
The moonlight casts over the forest floor, as you enter a clearing within the forest. Pockets of rich amber appear in the pillowed moss like glowing gems and the forest comes alive in the most magical way. Intimate sounds of the rainforest at night echo around you, cocooning you in the richness of life and abundance. Enveloping you completely in their world. This is your reward if you choose to stay still long enough to take it all in…..
I am thrilled to share with you, behind-the-perfumery door and how ‘Eden at Night’ was born…………..
Here’s how it started…..
It started with a beautiful image from the talented photographer Lean Timms. I remember the moment I saw it. It was close to midnight and the full moon was out (clearly why I was so active that late at night). Lean’s photo was met with some things I was going through at the time, and as I brought the two together, it morphed into this most beautifully complex scent. Junction points in life are always there. And I hope this scent experience helps you to decide whether I should stay in the ‘open field’ or venture into the ‘deep, dark forest’.
Can you imagine what this scent smells like?
Eden at Night is an ode to moonlight moments in a utopian forest. An earthy accord to bring you resolved roundedness in the depths of Winter. An enchanting colour way of deep forest green and a midnight black brings it to life visually. It smells like the entire journey, from the very start of thick dense earthiness, through to the discovery of amber gems on a pillow of moss and the soft dry down this brings. It feels like aloneness, solitude bound without time; night in the forest. Are you there?
The inspiration from my Cabinet of Curiosities….
My studio is filled with curiosities. Treasures collected reminding me of moments, landscapes and ideas. To bring this new seasonal scent to life, I drew upon these treasures, along with visual art, colour patterns and literature. Included in my collection for ‘Eden at Night’ was the incredible photo taken by Lean Timms (a limited edition print is included in each of your orders), midnight black fabric cascading and folding down, my ‘Biology’ book that details life, old rope remnants gifted to me by my good friend Sarah Andrews, bare branches from my garden outside, and a dragonfly representing change, transformation and self-realisation. Treasures detailing the story of this scent. You will see these curiosities dotted throughout the Eden imagery….
The journey this scent will take you on….
I am incredibly proud of Eden with someone dear explaining “It is just as you described it and much more” (thank you Julie). The opening notes are beautifully strong Cade and Cardamom with the heart notes progressing into Amber, Cacao and Tiare and the dry down notes – the ones you are left with, Violet Leaf, Oakmoss and Sandalwood. I get asked this so often, “can I try it?” And the answer is absolutely, I have made you….
10mls here for exactly this reason. Or if you are curious by nature, I have created a
Sample Set, which includes Eden at Night, Woods, Winter (new scent) and Violet too.
How can I use ‘Eden at Night’?
Through fabrics is a beautiful way to wear Eden at Night. If you wear a uniform or the same clothing most days, gently spray (from a safe distance), the Eau de Parfum onto your clothing at the meeting point from human to human. This is usually on the top half of the body – so blouses, shirts, jackets, tops of dresses, etc. By spraying each day onto the same area, and only washing minimally, you will build the scent into the clothing. And carry it through Winter with you.
Completely and only for you….
Each and every scent is made for you onsite here at the Perfumery Studio on the Limestone Coast of SA. So I can honour this, and you, make sure you add your name to your scent when ordering (available for EDPs and candles)….
Finale.
I am so proud of this seasonal scent. It is a place we find ourselves often and I hope it brings you everything you need to face and conquer that deep, dark forest. Again, what a privilege to create something so meaningful for you, and your support helps to create a world that is truly beautiful and artisan. Thank you.
